I found out last week
I found out last week that Della has hypertrophic cardiomyapathy. I started researching it; this is typically immediately fatal. It's been a huge blow. I've had pets all my life, but Della is the first to regard me as her person, and I love her very much.
My regular vet (we went to an animal cardiologist for the diagnosis) resassured me at a recent checkup; she told me so many cats die of it because it's frequently not detected until the final stages, but she believes this was caught early enough that we can treat it (it's not a curable condition, though). She told me she couldn't guarantee anything, but that she had a good feeling, and that cats can live out their full lifespan on the daily medicine that she's now taking ('taking' being a loose useage of the word, but she's actually quite good about it, considering).
I'm so thankful she detected the heart murmur and sent us out for a checkup.
Marie told me that Della's brother, who lives with Marie's sister's family, was discovered to have a heart murmur; they're going to a cardiologist. I hope that visit goes well.
I'm trying to think positive thoughts about Della; I want more than anything I can think of for her to live to be old and crotchety.
