Mozilla & Mapping the Internet

I've read enough about Internet Explorer to think the computer crash that caused me to have to reinstall everything was caused by an Internet Explorer security flaw.

Unfortunately, if you want to get automatic Windows updates, you need IE. But for browsing and mail, I'm switching to Mozilla. The interface isn't as pretty as IE's, but it seems to work well, and you can download skins if you want.

This is fascinating - a project to map the Internet.

It's interesting, everyone keeps talking about switching from IE because of the security flaws - and after my recent kerfuffle I can understand the frustration... But it seems to me that IE is still the most efficient and elegant browswer around. And I mean... everything has security flaws. It's just that why would hackers bother to put the effort into hacking a browser that only 1% of the world uses when they could hack the one that 97% of the world uses? I don't think it means that the other browsers are any more secure (in fact, my father argues that they're far *less* secure than IE), only that IE is a more tasty target. And I have to imagine that once enough people join the craze and get Mozilla, some hacker will target that one too. Or maybe I just hate change, and would miss my IE too much. Heh. Anyway, I've found myself discussing this topic recently, so it sort of boiled out of me. Apologies for the pointless spam. :) ~Lisa

It's never spam from you, Lisa! I agree with your points, and I like IE too. I just don't want to go through what I did several weeks ago, of re-installing everything. There's actually a big IE update that addreses security coming late this summer, though.

p.s. Do you ever use the F11 key with IE? I love that feature!

Hey, woohoo! I was right about the security thing. It comes down to shareware and open source and all that muckity muck. Which for some things is really good, but for others, not so much. I was really really trying to use Mozilla Firefox for the last week or so, but yesterday was the last straw. After the 87th crash, I opened IE. I'll just take my chances and keep updated. Besides, I missed my Yahoo! toolbar. I like Yahoo's popup bloxer best. :D~Mo
